keep one’s head

She kept her head when she was losing the game.

keep a cool head

keep a cool head

She kept her head.
She kept a cool head.

keep your head up

Keep your chin up

I know it’s a tough time, but keep your head up. Things will get better soon!

混同しやすいhold your head up

You did your best, and there is nothing you should be ashamed of. Hold your head up high!

keep one’s head down

I don’t know why but my boss is cranky today. I’ll just keep my head down for the rest of the day.

keep your head above water

I lost my job, and there’s not much money left in my bank account, but I’ll just try to keep my head above water.

God keep my head above water.

I know this is the last minute, but can I come to your party?

「ギリギリで」と副詞的に使うには at をつけて at the last minute です。

I submitted my report at the last minute.

cancel

I’m sorry to cancel at the last minute, but something came up.

He cancelled the plans on me at the last minute

She always flakes at the last minute.

Tom flaked out on me at the last minute.

She is such a flake.

She is flakey

Jesse bailed at the last minute.

He said he would help me with my move this weekend, but he bailed on me at the last minute.

「ギリギリ」は at the last minute

❶ cancel on
❷ flake on
❸ bail on

Cross my heart（and hope to die）と言う表現もあります。

Fingers crossed

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I have a test tomorrow.

I know you’ll smash it! Fingers crossed!

Fingers crossed!

Cross my heart (and hope to die)

Home Alone 2 – The Fun Begins.wmv　by internetserver1 – Youtube

You throw down your camera, and we won’t hurt you. You’ll never hear from us again.
You promise?
I cross my heart and hope to die.

The post 【十字架が由来】Fingers crossedなどの英語表現 first appeared on オーデンイングリッシュ.

in a row

I put the apples in a row.”

He is an amazing tennis player. No one can beat him twice in a row.

straight

He has been late for meetings ４ times straight.

I’ve been studying 7 straight hours.

back to back

They did 2 performances back to back.

Back-to-back hit songs from the singer made her internationally famous.

consecutively

Luke is exhausted, becuase he had to attend three meetings consecutively.

streak

The storm ended the streak of 21 days with no rain.

Maybe some other time.

Maybe some other time

We are going to go bowling with Sarah this Sunday. Do you want to come with us?

Sorry, I’m going back to my hometown this weekend. Maybe some other time.

Do you want to go out with me? I know a great restaurant with a nice view.

Maybe some other time.

Maybe next time

Maybe some other time

Can I take a rain check?

Can I take a rain check on that?

Do you want to try the new Japanese restaurant in the city tonight?

Can I take a rain check on that? I have so much stuff to do today.

Rain check

Maybe some other time. (Maybe next time.)

Can I take a rain check ?

なお、Can I take a rain check? は Maybe some other time.

in time / on time

in time

I think I’ll be there in time.

You are just in time. We need to hurry though. The movie is about to start soon.

on time

You are on time!

You are right on time.

I got to the meeting right on time.

Tom is always on time.

Tom is never on time.

Tom got to the station just in time.

Tom got to the station right on time.

I like coffee

Me too.

と言う時に Me too.

I don’t like coffee.

Me neither.

Neither do I. / Neither am I.

肯定文に賛成する時は、Me too の代わりに So do I. や So am I. を使うこともよくあります。一般動詞には　So do I. を使い、be動詞には So am I. を使いいます。 Me too.

I like dogs.

So do I.

I don’t like playing tennis.

Neither do I.

I am not happy.

Neither am I.

I wasn’t aware of the accident.

Neither was I.

I can’t go to his party.

Neither can I.

not either.

I don’t like pizza.

I don’t either.

I didn’t have time to study for the exam today.

I didn’t either.

happen to meet

I happened to meet Sarah at the supermarket.

I happened to find your glasses in the fridge.

Do you happen to have scissors?

run into

It felt so bizarre running into my boss on holiday.

I ran into the guy with my car, but no one got hurt fortunately.

bump into

I bumped into my ex-boyfriend at the restaurant.

I bumped my car into the wall.
